Whispering Daydreams ultra-lawn fabric from Spoonflower. \" width=\"668\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whispering-all-plumbagoxx.jpg 668w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whispering-all-plumbagoxx-251x300.jpg 251w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I love fabric, you love fabric, we all love fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 But with experience we become more selective about what we choose to sew.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, everyone appreciates the beauty of Swiss batiste, linen, silk, Liberty of London tana lawn, Swiss pique&#8217; and more.\u00c2\u00a0 Most sewists praise Michael Miller, Tula Pink and easy care Imperial.\u00c2\u00a0 But now I have a new love.<\/p>\n<p>Even though I&#8217;ve been on a fabric starvation diet, Nancy Lee Moran&#8217;s hand drawn fairytale toile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spoonflower.com\/collections\/88338\"><em>Whispering Daydreams<\/em><\/a>,\u00c2\u00a0 had me from hello. I can hear it whisper&#8230;&#8221;shhh&#8230; Pippi Longstocking&#8217;s gone heirloom!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Seeing that scrappy, pigtailed girl and her fantasy companions portrayed so delicately just delighted me.\u00c2\u00a0 The print is pure innocence and set me to daydreaming.\u00c2\u00a0 Teamed up with the tiny, fancy dot, also available from <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spoonflower.com\/collections\/88338\">Spoonflower<\/a><\/em>,\u00c2\u00a0 garments for 3 yo granddaughter Vivian Rose danced like visions of sugarplums in my head.<\/p>\n<p>Available in lavender or blue, in three sizes, and in an array of fabric choices, the smallest blue <em>Whispering Daydreams<\/em>&#8216; ultra-lawn was my choice. <em><strong>CORRECTION:\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong> The MINIATURE size (2&#8243; figures) was\u00c2\u00a0 used.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, I couldn&#8217;t wait to lay hands on it.\u00c2\u00a0 When I opened the package, I was not disappointed.\u00c2\u00a0 It truly is a fine lawn.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve always been curious about fabric and its designers.\u00c2\u00a0 Have you read the story behind Michael Miller?\u00c2\u00a0 Sarah Jane? After getting acquainted with them, I have wanted to explore the origin and designers whose fabrics call to me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nancyleemoran.com\/blog\/?p=795\">Reading up on Nancy Lee Moran<\/a>, this fabric, and looking at her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/nancyleemoran\/art-by-nancy-lee-moran\/\">Pinterest page<\/a>, I discovered that she had collaborated with b.b. flockings.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Whispering Daydreams<\/em> includes some of b.b.&#8217;s dolls and drawings from her stories.\u00c2\u00a0 Step into another world by visiting b.b.&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/bbflockling.blogspot.com\/\">blog<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 So interesting!<\/p>\n<p>I hadn&#8217;t decided on a pattern before ordering yardage.\u00c2\u00a0 Finally, I chose the Petite Poche (Wendy Schoen) <em>Violettes Bleues<\/em> pattern, which pushed me off my no-more-patterns wagon.\u00c2\u00a0<em> (I have been\u00c2\u00a0 riding &#8211;and falling off&#8211;several wagons lately.)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"patterns\">\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"nav2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35545\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/violettes_blue_lg_main.jpg\" alt=\"violettes_blue_lg_main\" width=\"331\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/violettes_blue_lg_main.jpg 331w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/violettes_blue_lg_main-231x300.jpg 231w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"right\">\n<div id=\"detail\">\n<div id=\"thumbs\">It&#8217;s description reads:<\/div>\n<p><em>This pattern is an adorable little girl\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s play dress and panties pattern in sizes 6 months to 3 years. The play dress features a gathered neck edge bound with bias binding with ends extending into ties for the back opening. The yoke gathers are secured with a holding band, allowing the yoke to form the puffing effect. Narrow capped sleeves are gathered and bound with contrasting fabric and pleats beneath the armhole provide added fullness. The shaped Madeira hem is attached with the Point de Paris stitch by machine but could also be worked by hand. The matching panties feature elastic waist and legs. Optional embroidery adorns the front of the dress (template included).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_35560\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35560\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-35560 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whispering-bodice-plumbago-xx.jpg\" alt=\"whispering bodice plumbago xx\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whispering-bodice-plumbago-xx.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whispering-bodice-plumbago-xx-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whispering-bodice-plumbago-xx-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-35560\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bodice with puffing is just one front piece, with gathers held in place by bias.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>What a sweet and easy pattern this is.\u00c2\u00a0 For the dress, there are only 3 pattern pieces&#8211;front, back and sleeves.\u00c2\u00a0 There are no buttons or buttonholes.\u00c2\u00a0 I love the Madeira hem, but for a more casual look, that is not necessary.<\/p>\n<p>My only complaint is that it does not go beyond size 3. \u00c2\u00a0 Vivian wears a 3 now so I won&#8217;t be able to use this when she sizes up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35575\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/violettes_blue-sizes.jpg\" alt=\"violettes_blue sizes\" width=\"273\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to see in the photo, but the background of the dot fabric includes very, very subtle gray squiggles.\u00c2\u00a0 They add a nice bit of texture to the pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 After cutting the Madeira hem, there was not enough left for the <em>Violettes Bleues<\/em> bloomers.\u00c2\u00a0 Children&#8217;s Corner <em>Jackson<\/em> has a nice little pair of bloomers which I like and have used before.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35576\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/CC-Jackson.jpg\" alt=\"CC Jackson\" width=\"264\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/CC-Jackson.jpg 921w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/CC-Jackson-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/CC-Jackson-768x1023.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/CC-Jackson-769x1024.jpg 769w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/CC-Jackson-600x800.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 264px) 100vw, 264px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It requires much less fabric, so I went with that.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_35556\" style=\"width: 783px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35556\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35556\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whisper-bloomersxx.jpg\" alt=\"CC Jackson pattern was used for the bloomers. Bias binding finished the legs.\" width=\"773\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whisper-bloomersxx.jpg 773w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whisper-bloomersxx-290x300.jpg 290w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/whisper-bloomersxx-768x795.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 773px) 100vw, 773px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-35556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CC Jackson pattern was used for the bloomers. Bias binding finished the legs.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It took a long time to select the fabric for the bias binding and trim above the Madeira hem.\u00c2\u00a0 At least 12 blues in my stash were rejected, so I made a trip to the fabric store to buy this blue.\u00c2\u00a0 I experienced significant guilt for being so fussy and again falling off the no-more-fabric wagon, but <em>Whispering Daydreams<\/em> deserved the right trim.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh well.<\/p>\n<p>The original plan was to pinstitch the Madeira hem using the same dark blue thread as the binding.\u00c2\u00a0 You know how I love pinstitch!
