These brother-sister outfits are truly modern projects for old fashioned Nanas.\u00c2\u00a0 They are quick, easy, wash-and-wear and contemporary.\u00c2\u00a0 Yet, the classic styles and candy cane theme are as old fashioned as can be.<\/p>\n
Our Christmas tree decorations have always included\u00c2\u00a0 a dozen celophane wrapped candy canes.\u00c2\u00a0 When\u00c2\u00a0little guests\u00c2\u00a0 visit, they are\u00c2\u00a0invited to pick one from the tree.<\/p>\n
Last year, when Robert and Laurel were 3 and 4 years old, and their visits were blessedly frequent, I knew we needed more.\u00c2\u00a0 For them, it seems that here\u00c2\u00a0is just something\u00c2\u00a0irresistibly delicious about a candy cane that actually hung on a tree.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Their Christmas outfits\u00c2\u00a0 reflected their holiday appetite for the striped sugar classic.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n \u00c2\u00a0For Robert, I \u00c2\u00a0used my default pattern, the Jon-Jon from Martha Pullen’s Martha’s Favorite Applique’s<\/em> book.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel loves to twirl so I chose the swing dress, Lydia<\/em>, from Bonnie Blue\u00c2\u00a0 Designs.<\/p>\n Baby\u00c2\u00a0cord or pinfeather cord, as it used to be called, is one of my favorite fabrics. It has enough body to serve as bottom weight and yet is not too heavy for a shirt.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Red baby\u00c2\u00a0cord was used on both outfits, which were lined with red gingham seersucker.<\/p>\n The embroidery designs are from Bernina’s #830 Christmas Cheer<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 This is an adorable collection with some very unique Christmas designs.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n After deciding to use the designs with candy cane hoops, I thought that the they needed a path.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0So red bias twill was applique’d \u00c2\u00a0 in an uphill\/downhill path and embroidered a few more designs.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Robert and Laurel have decorated their Christmas tree this year.\u00c2\u00a0 Among the decorations are rainbow striped candy canes.\u00c2\u00a0 It just looks all wrong to me.\u00c2\u00a0 I guess that’s what comes from being an old fashioned Nana.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" These brother-sister outfits are truly modern projects for old fashioned Nanas.\u00c2\u00a0 They are quick, easy, wash-and-wear and contemporary.\u00c2\u00a0 Yet, the classic styles and candy cane theme are as old fashioned as can be.
