{"id":4456,"date":"2009-11-29T23:50:51","date_gmt":"2009-11-30T04:50:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=4456"},"modified":"2011-12-06T23:06:35","modified_gmt":"2011-12-07T04:06:35","slug":"angel-watch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/29\/angel-watch\/","title":{"rendered":"Angel Watch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/angelwatchcorner.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4487\" title=\"angelwatchcorner\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/angelwatchcorner.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"561\" height=\"512\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My daughter loves pretty blankets for her baby\u00c2\u00a0 boy and this is one of her favorites. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I like to think this angel and others, unseen, watch over my precious grandson.<\/p>\n<p>The shawl is made of 100% wool challis.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It has the drape and softness of rayon challis, with extra lightweight warmth and without synthetic fibers.\u00c2\u00a0 What a luxurious and cooperative fabric this is!\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0This shawl\u00c2\u00a0has been machine washed and dried a number of times and requires only a light pressing.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4489\" title=\"angelwatchedge\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/angelwatchedge.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"514\" height=\"351\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00c2\u00a0 generous 45&#8243; square is hemstitched and edged with\u00c2\u00a0 three rows of parchment colored trim, antique lace insertion and edging,\u00c2\u00a0 lace tape in the center.\u00c2\u00a0 This, of course, requires more serious pressing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/angelwatchtclose.JPG\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4488\" title=\"angelwatchtclose\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/angelwatchtclose.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/angelwatchtclose.JPG 395w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/angelwatchtclose-185x300.jpg 185w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Pfaff angel alphabet is one of the\u00c2\u00a0 collections I purchased shortly after getting my first embroidery machine.\u00c2\u00a0 The alphabet has beautifully shaded letters\u00c2\u00a0and charming, detailed Old World cherubs.\u00c2\u00a0 From their tight ringlets to their plump little toes, these\u00c2\u00a0thread painted\u00c2\u00a0cherubs\u00c2\u00a0are exactly what I would expect to see if, perchance, I happened upon a real one.\u00c2\u00a0 But that&#8217; s pretty unlikely.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4459\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/galatea.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4459\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4459\" title=\"angelwatchgalatea\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/galatea-767x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/galatea-767x1024.jpg 767w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/galatea-224x300.jpg 224w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/galatea.jpg 799w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4459\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Raphael&#39;s fresco The Nymph Galatea<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They look\u00c2\u00a0too much like the cupids\u00c2\u00a0in Raphael&#8217;s<em> The Nymph Galatea<\/em> for the resemblance to be a coincidence.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s most\u00c2\u00a0likely that\u00c2\u00a0the digitizer had this image before him when the alphabet was designed.\u00c2\u00a0But then again, I suppose all cherubs look like fat baby angels, so perhaps I&#8217;m wrong.\u00c2\u00a0 It has happened once or twice before \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>As seen in this fresco, the nymph Galatea had more need of immediate protection\u00c2\u00a0 little Alastair ever\u00c2\u00a0 will.\u00c2\u00a0 At least I hope so.\u00c2\u00a0 But the concept of angelic defense certainly appeals to my grandmother sensibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the cherub\/angel does not protect him from Tritons,\u00c2\u00a0the woolen blanket\u00c2\u00a0might keep him from catching cold.\u00c2\u00a0 Now that&#8217;s real protection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My daughter loves pretty blankets for her baby\u00c2\u00a0 boy and this is one of her favorites. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I like to think this angel and others, unseen, watch over my precious grandson.
