Swiss flannel cap with antique silk grosgrain ribbon and it’s-gotta-get-better featherstitching.<\/p><\/div>\n

This little guy was not born yesterday, but he certainly has thrived on mother’s milk and kisses.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, if the amount of\u00c2\u00a0 milk and kisses\u00c2\u00a0he has received were\u00c2\u00a0accurately reflected in his size, he would be bigger than a four year-old.\u00c2\u00a0 But he is a good sized boy at 10 months and has already worn his last heirloom daygown and bonnet.<\/p>\n

I think few things are sweeter than a baby wearing a bonnet.\u00c2\u00a0 This cap is part of my grandson’s coming home outfit and coordinates with the blanket and daygown<\/a> shown in earlier posts.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Like those items, the cap fabric is Swiss flannel.\u00c2\u00a0 Made from The Old Fashioned Baby’s Baby Bonnets<\/em> pattern, it is\u00c2\u00a0self-lined\u00c2\u00a0and bound with blue “fairy” Swiss batiste.<\/p>\n

Please don’t laugh at my feather stitch. I am reeally trying hard to get better at this.<\/p><\/div>\n

Embellishments include\u00c2\u00a0my diligent efforts to work a decent feather stitch, tiny pearl buttons and some\u00c2\u00a0luscious vintage silk grosgrain ribbon that has been hoarded and used for only the most special projects.<\/p>\n

I’ve spent almost 30 years accumulating sewing treasures–lace,\u00c2\u00a0 fabrics, \u00c2\u00a0handlooms and this ribbon, all\u00c2\u00a0deemed too precious to use for anything but the grandchildren for whom I hoped.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Now, for my three little blessings I cut into these with reckless abandon.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s a joy to see my treasures put to the use for which they were intended.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
