Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do.

Making a coat is not for the faint of heart, nor for those\u00c2\u00a0less than\u00c2\u00a0accomplished in the needlearts. Years ago, Judy Day made\u00c2\u00a0gorgeous smocked coats for her two daughters and now has\u00c2\u00a0made\u00c2\u00a0these beauties for her two granddaughters, using the same pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Self piping, covered buttons and monograms are special details that make the coats fit for a princess or two.<\/div>\n

Though they live hundreds of miles apart, the adorable, girly\u00c2\u00a05 year old cousins see one another often enough to be close friends and enjoy wearing the matching clothes that Judy makes for them. In the pictures, you can see their matching blue smocked bishop dresses peeking out\u00c2\u00a0at the top of their coats.The coat pattern is Children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Corner #12 Coat-Bonnet<\/em>. Both the coats and the muffs are made from a gorgeous piece of Viyella that Judy was lucky enough to purchase from a friend whose fabric store was closed more than 15 years ago. The owner had held on to this piece but\u00c2\u00a0relinquished \u00c2\u00a0it into Judy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s capable and creative hands for this project.<\/p>\n

The muff pattern is Muff ‘n’ Puff Smocking <\/em>by Evelyn Ewing Glass Originals.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em>The monograms are from Masterworks II<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 by Designer’s Gallery.<\/p>\n

Judy always adds a little extra\u00c2\u00a0to her projects.\u00c2\u00a0 For the coats, the “extra” was\u00c2\u00a0 the satin lining embroidered with fanciful designs full of fun and special meaning to each girl.<\/p>\n
