{"id":5229,"date":"2010-01-03T23:15:22","date_gmt":"2010-01-04T04:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=5229"},"modified":"2011-12-13T23:23:10","modified_gmt":"2011-12-14T04:23:10","slug":"swiss-flannel-carriage-blanket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/03\/swiss-flannel-carriage-blanket\/","title":{"rendered":"Swiss Flannel Carriage Blanket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/SwissflannelyellowcarNflrl3brite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13410\" title=\"SwissflannelyellowcarNflrl3brite\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/SwissflannelyellowcarNflrl3brite-1024x674.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/SwissflannelyellowcarNflrl3brite-1024x674.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/SwissflannelyellowcarNflrl3brite-300x197.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/SwissflannelyellowcarNflrl3brite.jpg 1096w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Maybe I should have a whole category dedicated to Swiss flannel projects.\u00c2\u00a0 This is yet another of the many\u00c2\u00a0items I have made with this luscious fabric and I don&#8217;t ever seem to tire of it.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a similar white blanket was made, using regular Swiss flannel and featured in the post <a title=\"Antique Carriage Baby Shawl\" href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/27\/antique-carriage-baby-shawl\/\"><em>Antique Carriage Blanket<\/em><\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 This one was made in anticipation of the birth of my second grandson, Alastair.\u00c2\u00a0 I enjoyed\u00c2\u00a0using the bold dark blue in the flowers.\u00c2\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The blanket is made of &#8220;whisperweight&#8221; Swiss flannel and it is so light that &#8220;whisper&#8221; is a very descriptive name.\u00c2\u00a0 The English lace edging is a\u00c2\u00a01&#8243; wide\u00c2\u00a0double row of scallops, delicate in design but quite\u00c2\u00a0sturdy.\u00c2\u00a0 This edging can withstand the frequent, heavy laundering required of baby bed linens.\u00c2\u00a0 It is attached to the blanket with a wing needle pinstitch.<\/p>\n<p>The antique wicker carriage machine embroidery design is from <em>Fil Tire&#8217; and Fancywork Elements <\/em>by Suzanne Sawko and me.\u00c2\u00a0 On my Brother Duetta 4500D,\u00c2\u00a0a block of fil\u00c2\u00a0 tire&#8217; is made of cotton batiste in the 4&#215;4 frame with a wing needle and blue 80 wt. Madeira Cotona thread.\u00c2\u00a0 This block is used as applique&#8217; fabric for the carriage design.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowflrclosebrite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13409\" title=\"Swissflannelyellowflrclosebrite\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowflrclosebrite-1024x545.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowflrclosebrite-1024x545.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowflrclosebrite-300x159.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowflrclosebrite.jpg 1260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The floral designs on the sides are from the same collection, with silk ribbon wound around web rose foundations.\u00c2\u00a0 Creating a frame around the blanket is\u00c2\u00a0a 9 mm featherstitch, a P-design digitized by Suzanne Sawko and stitched on my Pfaff 7570 with 30 wt. Mettler cotton thread.\u00c2\u00a0 A short piece of white lace tape is stitched over the end of the buggy, indicative of a tiny carriage cover.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13408\" title=\"Swissflannelyellowcropcarriagebrite\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowcropcarriagebrite.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"744\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowcropcarriagebrite.jpg 336w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Swissflannelyellowcropcarriagebrite-135x300.jpg 135w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have made several blankets like these as baby gifts.\u00c2\u00a0 By\u00c2\u00a0careful selection of\u00c2\u00a0the carriage and flower colors, it can be made suitable for a\u00c2\u00a0 baby boy, baby girl, or\u00c2\u00a0gender neutral if the gender is not known.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 They have always been well received and are often put to use as a nursing cover up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maybe I should have a whole category dedicated to Swiss flannel projects.\u00c2\u00a0 This is yet another of the many\u00c2\u00a0items I have made with this luscious fabric and I don&#8217;t ever seem to tire of it.
