{"id":5238,"date":"2010-01-04T23:16:12","date_gmt":"2010-01-05T04:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=5238"},"modified":"2015-01-28T13:18:44","modified_gmt":"2015-01-28T18:18:44","slug":"ladys-grape-sweater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/04\/ladys-grape-sweater\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady&#8217;s Grape Sweater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/grapesweaterclose.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5239\" title=\"ladiesgrapesweaterclose\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/grapesweaterclose-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/grapesweaterclose-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/grapesweaterclose-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/grapesweaterclose.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just like everyone else, I love a bargain.\u00c2\u00a0 I found this great sweater, without embroidery, marked down from $48 to $9.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I knew the addition of an embroidery design would take it from plain to pretty.<\/p>\n<p>The lacy knit sleeves make it cool enough for Florida weather and yet, with a green or purple shirt under it, it is warm enough for our few cool days.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In my experience, the key to successful embroidery on sweaters is to stabilize it properly.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatssewconnie.com\">Connie Palmer<\/a>, a well-known designer and traveling teacher\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 is a master of sewing on knits and recommends the application of an\u00c2\u00a0iron-on\u00c2\u00a0fusible knit stabilizer.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0This is\u00c2\u00a0applied with the stretch of the fusible going opposite to the stretch of the sweater or other knit garment.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Because this design is very stitch intensive, I used UltraSolvy in the hoop.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I\u00c2\u00a0used a spray adhesive to hold the sweater in place while I basted it to the\u00c2\u00a0UltraSolvy.<\/p>\n<p>With some deep purple slacks in mind, I chose these grapes from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodesign.de\/flowerframe.htm \"> KO Designs<\/a> <em>Wine Grapes<\/em> collection at. \u00c2\u00a0I had purchased this collection to make ultrasuede wine bags for gifts and they\u00c2\u00a0sewed out beautifully.\u00c2\u00a0 So with some careful editing to join several of the designs into one, I was able to stitch this\u00c2\u00a0in\u00c2\u00a0 the largest hoop for\u00c2\u00a0my Brother ULT 2003D.\u00c2\u00a0 With the larger hoop on the Duetta, it would have been much less trouble to combine the designs.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m so grateful to Connie for developing and sharing this technique.\u00c2\u00a0 Since using\u00c2\u00a0her method, I have had\u00c2\u00a0100% \u00c2\u00a0success on all knits, from tee shirts to heavy sweaters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just like everyone else, I love a bargain.\u00c2\u00a0 I found this great sweater, without embroidery, marked down from $48 to $9.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I knew the addition of an embroidery design would take it from plain to pretty.
