Laurel was decked out in an easy care Imperial broadcloth pinafore\/sundress.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zCinderellabackPlite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12847\" title=\"zCinderellabackPlite\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zCinderellabackPlite.jpg\" width=\"201\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zCinderellabackPlite.jpg 201w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zCinderellabackPlite-139x300.jpg 139w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each of her guests, prince and princess alike, received a flowing satin cape, made royalty worthy by virture of the\u00c2\u00a0 almost precious gem closure at the neck.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, this was any one of my gazillion old rhinestone buttons stitched onto a Velcro closure.\u00c2\u00a0 For safety reasons, it is important that the neck open with just a very light tug.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel is shown with her cape below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/L-cape-R.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28576\" alt=\"L cape R\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/L-cape-R.jpg\" width=\"283\" height=\"504\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/L-cape-R.jpg 283w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/L-cape-R-168x300.jpg 168w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pinafore back was smocked in a geometric pattern.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0cape, each guest was given\u00c2\u00a0royal headgear, elegant jewelry\u00c2\u00a0and a satin goody bag embroidered with a crown and his name,\u00c2\u00a0 such as &#8220;Prince David.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1526\" style=\"width: 475px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zcinderellaPrinceRobertP2.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1526\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1526\" title=\"cinderellaPrinceRobertP2\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zcinderellaPrinceRobertP2.jpg\" width=\"465\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zcinderellaPrinceRobertP2.jpg 477w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zcinderellaPrinceRobertP2-300x263.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 465px) 100vw, 465px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1526\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Little Prince Robert<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For parties, Robert always gets a\u00c2\u00a0matching brother outfit.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Here he is in his matching brother &#8220;Prince Robert&#8221; Jon-Jon suit.\u00c2\u00a0 They were both precious.<\/p>\n<p>sewing details:<\/p>\n<p>PINAFORE PATTERN:\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel~Little Sunday Dresses<\/p>\n<p>One of the things I like most about this pattern is the way the wide square armholes are drawn up to size with ribbon.\u00c2\u00a0 Button loops at the side seam support the ribbon which is then drawn up and tied in a bow.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Except for the little bit of lace on the shoulder ruffle, the garment is wash and wear.<\/p>\n<p>The thing I like least about it is the &#8220;lined&#8221; smocking.\u00c2\u00a0 The designer professes that this keeps the smocking from stretching out.\u00c2\u00a0 But it also reduces the freedom of movement which, in my humble opinion, is one of the reasons English smocking is so suitable for children&#8217;s wear.\u00c2\u00a0 The way the pattern is designed, you need the lining in order to finish off the armholes.\u00c2\u00a0 So after finishing that, I cut the lining away behind the smocking and turned a shirttail hem on the raw edge.<\/p>\n<p>JON-JON PATTERN for Robert~from the book, Martha Pullen&#8217;s Favorite Appliques<\/p>\n<p>The thing I like most about this pattern is that it is soooooo quick and easy.\u00c2\u00a0 The basic pattern, without embroidery or any other embellishments, can be made in one hour.<\/p>\n<p>SMOCKING PLATE: Cinderella by Gwen Milner\u00c2\u00a0 Instead of smocking the wheels, I used two old pearl buttons.<\/p>\n<p>Picture smocking is my least favorite kind of smocking. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It is, however,\u00c2\u00a0 my grandchildren&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0favorite kind.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 And so, like so many other Nanas,\u00c2\u00a0I picture smock my sometimes-arthritic fingers to the bone.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re \u00c2\u00a0always\u00c2\u00a0working for those rewarding hugs and kisses.<\/p>\n<p>fabric: blue Imperial broadcloth<\/p>\n<p>Imperial is always my first choice for easy care batiste and broadcloth.<\/p>\n<p>lace:\u00c2\u00a0 English edging lace<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/E4A.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-560 aligncenter\" title=\"E4A\" alt=\"E4A\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/E4A.jpg\" width=\"420\" height=\"111\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/E4A.jpg 420w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/E4A-300x79.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is a sweet little lace, E-23, available\u00c2\u00a0here at\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;A\u00c2\u00a0 STORE&#8221;
