{"id":539,"date":"2009-08-20T00:20:50","date_gmt":"2009-08-20T04:20:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=539"},"modified":"2012-03-08T03:19:02","modified_gmt":"2012-03-08T08:19:02","slug":"personalized-baby-ready-to-wear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/20\/personalized-baby-ready-to-wear\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Work Uniform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/UnversalSeatingsmpicasa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-935\" title=\"babyworkuniform \" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/UnversalSeatingsmpicasa-640x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/UnversalSeatingsmpicasa-640x1024.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/UnversalSeatingsmpicasa-187x300.jpg 187w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/UnversalSeatingsmpicasa.jpg 818w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">One of the things I love most about machine embroidery is the limitless opportunity to personalize items relatively quickly.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 When my daughter&#8217;s sorority sister, roommate\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0then matron-of-honor, Minna, \u00c2\u00a0gave birth to her first child, I wanted to do something very special.\u00c2\u00a0 Because\u00c2\u00a0Sam&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0grandparents had been shopping for him since the announcement of Minna&#8217;s pregnancy, he had more than a closet full of beautiful clothing.\u00c2\u00a0 So I decided cutsey personalization would fill the bill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Minna and\u00c2\u00a0her husband\u00c2\u00a0are huge Disney fans, so with my beloved Brother 4500D, I embroidered several burp cloths, bibs and outfits with Disney characters.\u00c2\u00a0<!--more-->This off the rack onesie and soft visor set was included with the package of Disney items.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Sam&#8217;s father works in\u00c2\u00a0the family business and joked that he would be taking newborn\u00c2\u00a0Sam in as a junior partner.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 So\u00c2\u00a0I thought a &#8220;uniform&#8221; would be appropriate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/Samjuniorpartner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-665\" title=\"babyworkuniform\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/Samjuniorpartner.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"883\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">From my\u00c2\u00a0design collection, I selected a\u00c2\u00a0big delivery truck, sized\u00c2\u00a0proportionally to the onesie.\u00c2\u00a0 Then, in my PE-Design program, I worked the company name until it fit on the side of the truck.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Of course, I wanted &#8220;Sam&#8221; to be in large letters on the visor and the &#8220;Junior Partner&#8221; embroidery to be large enough to read easily.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The last touch was to re-sew the buttons with red thread.\u00c2\u00a0 This is not the place for mother of pearl buttons.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;Utility&#8221; quality was just perfect.\u00c2\u00a0 But the accent of the red thread seemed to pull it all together nicely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This little outfit is certainly not an heirloom.\u00c2\u00a0 But it was special to Sam&#8217;s family and they enjoyed seeing him in his little work clothes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I do have some tips for anyone wanting to personalize a similar outfit.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1.\u00c2\u00a0 Iron a fusible tricot interfacing under the area where the design is to be placed.\u00c2\u00a0 Make sure that the square, probably 4&#8243; x 4&#8243;, has the stretch going the opposite direction of the stretch on the knit.\u00c2\u00a0 Most garments stretch from side to side.\u00c2\u00a0 So apply the fusible knit stabilizer so that it stretches up and down.\u00c2\u00a0 Then turn the garment inside out.<\/li>\n<li>2.\u00c2\u00a0 Put a basting frame around the design in\u00c2\u00a0your software or using on-screen editing.\u00c2\u00a0 I like to add an X from corner to corner for extra stability.<\/li>\n<li>3.\u00c2\u00a0 Print out a template, then mark the placement center with a cross\u00c2\u00a0hairs that goes from side to side and top to bottom.<\/li>\n<li>4.\u00c2\u00a0 Hoop up a water soluble sticky stabilizer.<\/li>\n<li>5.\u00c2\u00a0 With the onesie inside out, work through the neck or crotch to place it under the embroidery foot.\u00c2\u00a0 Try to match the lines to the center side marks one each side of the hoop.\u00c2\u00a0 Then sink the needle in the center mark and, if necessary, \u00c2\u00a0resituate the garment for perfect placement.<\/li>\n<li>6.\u00c2\u00a0 With the needle and presser foot up, advance the design one stitch.\u00c2\u00a0 With such a small garment and working through the neck opening or crotch, the movement of the hoop may dislodge the garment from the correct placement.\u00c2\u00a0 If so, try again, holding the garment firmly in place with your fingers.<\/li>\n<li>7.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Begin stitching the basting frame, but do so just 2-3 stitches at a time, then stop and reconfirm that the item is still placed correctly.\u00c2\u00a0 Continue until it is basted in place.<\/li>\n<li>8.\u00c2\u00a0 Do not leave the machine unattended.\u00c2\u00a0 It is very difficult to\u00c2\u00a0keep the body of the garment from flopping into the embroidery field.\u00c2\u00a0 So place close attention and be ready to stop on a dime.<\/li>\n<li>9.
