My daughter-in-law, Shelly, is such a wonderful mother.\u00c2\u00a0 This week she hosted a little Valentine party for the neighborhood children.\u00c2\u00a0 They exchanged homemade cards, decorated\u00c2\u00a0heart cookies, dipped strawberries in chocolate, chased balloons and had a big time.\u00c2\u00a0 It was pouring down rain, so the other mothers were happy to have a fun indoor activity for the children.\u00c2\u00a0 These Florida kids are usually outside playing, so\u00c2\u00a0one rainy day gives them cabin\u00c2\u00a0fever.<\/p>\n

There has been a lot of\u00c2\u00a0Valentine activity in my sewing room this past week.Laurel and I worked together to embroider a red\u00c2\u00a0tee shirt knit dress, a blank\u00c2\u00a0from\u00c2\u00a0my stash, \u00c2\u00a0for her to wear to the party.\u00c2\u00a0 This is just one of the delightful designs from the Zundt Design Valentine<\/em> collection.\u00c2\u00a0 We also\u00c2\u00a0stitched a few others on dishtowels because Laurel couldn’t\u00c2\u00a0choose just one.<\/p>\n

Using some darling Michael Miller Valentine fabric, I made turn tube pillowcases for the older grandchildren.\u00c2\u00a0The remaining\u00c2\u00a0piece was serged and served as a table runner for the neighborhood party.<\/p>\n

Laurel enjoyed making a Valentine tree.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0She painted the\u00c2\u00a0balsa wood kit from Michael’s with her watercolor paint pens, then wrote names on the blank hearts.<\/p>\n

For the past\u00c2\u00a0few days, as we sewed and crafted Valentine bookmarks for her friends, Laurel and I sang along to Skidamarink, a\u00c2\u00a0sweet and bouncy song suitable for Valentine’s Day.\u00c2\u00a0 Laurel has memorized it and plans to sing it to her family Sunday morning.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a free download from this site:\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 www.freeabcsongs.com<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Scroll down the song list until you see Skidamarink.<\/p>\n

Holidays are so much fun now that Robert, 4, and Laurel, 5,\u00c2\u00a0are old enough to anticipate and plan for special occasions.\u00c2\u00a0 I look forward to enjoying these activities all over again with Alastair, 11 months,\u00c2\u00a0when he is a little older.<\/p>\n
