{"id":5845,"date":"2010-03-01T01:11:20","date_gmt":"2010-03-01T06:11:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/?p=5845"},"modified":"2012-04-12T22:27:57","modified_gmt":"2012-04-13T02:27:57","slug":"lacetape-quilted-pillow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/01\/lacetape-quilted-pillow\/","title":{"rendered":"LaceTape Quilted pillow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTBrite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14181\" title=\"pillowbowLTBrite\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTBrite.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1009\" height=\"812\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTBrite.jpg 1009w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTBrite-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1009px) 100vw, 1009px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A pillow is\u00c2\u00a0a great project for learning new techniques.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The use\u00c2\u00a0and actual quilting of heirloom lace\u00c2\u00a0combine two of my favorite sewing genres.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Adding free motion quilting and the use of lace tape to the project makes it an instructive and pretty little ornament.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning with rice Imperial batiste,\u00c2\u00a0two rectangles were cut 14&#8243;\u00c2\u00a0 x 18&#8243;, two inches \u00c2\u00a0larger than the intended finished pillow size of 12&#8243; x 16&#8243;.\u00c2\u00a0 A piece of lightweight batting was cut to the same measurement.\u00c2\u00a0 The bow was traced onto one of the batiste rectangles using a fine tipped blue water soluble marker.\u00c2\u00a0 The quilt &#8220;sandwich&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0was hand basted together, with the\u00c2\u00a0traced bow on\u00c2\u00a0 top, then batting and finally the second batiste rectangle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTcloseBrite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14182\" title=\"pillowbowLTcloseBrite\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTcloseBrite.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1254\" height=\"904\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTcloseBrite.jpg 1254w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTcloseBrite-300x216.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pillowbowLTcloseBrite-1024x738.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1254px) 100vw, 1254px\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Next,\u00c2\u00a0two panels of lace tape, antique\u00c2\u00a0insertion and a small edging\u00c2\u00a0were created as shown in the photo, using the heirloom sewing technique\u00c2\u00a0of lace-to-lace.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Care was taken to mirror the lace pattern.\u00c2\u00a0 The heirloom panels were pinned in place so that the edge of the first and last row of lace tape fell on the intended seam line on the sides of the pillow.<\/p>\n<p>With fine monofilament thread, the panels were straight stitched to the quilt sandwich along each line of zig zag stitches that joined the pieces together, quilting the panels.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The scalloped edge of the lace closest to the bow was left free.<\/p>\n<p>The bow was stitched free-motion, with the feed dogs lowered, and a piece of Stitch &#8216;N Ditch stabilizer placed under the center panel to prevent puckering as the bow was stitched.\u00c2\u00a0 Those who have some experience with free motion quilting might be most satisfied with this stitching done with 80 wt.
