That was before this ages old term was deemed politically incorrect.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The fagoting\u00c2\u00a0technique is now referred to as\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;bridging&#8221; but I doubt they call this product &#8220;bridges.&#8221; The fancy entredeux is joined to either side of this.<\/p>\n<p>I prefer entredeux beading, tatting or this fagoting because\u00c2\u00a0they all\u00c2\u00a0wear\u00c2\u00a0so much better than lace beading.\u00c2\u00a0 If\u00c2\u00a0a\u00c2\u00a0sleeve is actually drawn up with ribbon, there is a lot of stress on lace beading.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0After replacing the lace beading on two of Rebecca&#8217;s heirloom dresses years ago, I vowed not to use it again on sleeves, except for an infant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DoneBodiceSleeve.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6197\" title=\"DoneBodiceSleeve\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DoneBodiceSleeve-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DoneBodiceSleeve-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DoneBodiceSleeve-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/DoneBodiceSleeve.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another feature that pleases me is\u00c2\u00a0 the fancy entredeux on the sleeves and bodice.\u00c2\u00a0 On one of my\u00c2\u00a0 teaching trips to Australia, my dear hostess gave me a bag of these &#8220;scraps.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 She had a store in Sydney and when the bolt was near the end, she threw the short ends into a bag and opened a new\u00c2\u00a0 bolt.\u00c2\u00a0 Some of the pieces are as short as 6&#8221; and\u00c2\u00a0a few \u00c2\u00a0as long as 24&#8243;\u00c2\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Doneskirt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6199\" title=\"Doneskirt\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Doneskirt-798x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"641\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Doneskirt-798x1024.jpg 798w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Doneskirt-234x300.jpg 234w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/Doneskirt.jpg 937w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was so pleased to have them for this dress and Alastairs duck bubble.\u00c2\u00a0 And all the while I was sewing it, I was reminiscing about the delightful Australian ladies in my classes\u00c2\u00a0and the fun we all had, in class and out.<\/p>\n<p>Mildred Turner burning up her stockings trying to warm her feet on a space heater in our frigid hotel room, Lezette Thomason fashioning a gag gift &#8220;booby trap&#8221; (bra) for me out of my beloved Liberty of London tanna lawn, Southern-belle proper Eloise Smith and lovely Sheila Yates, along with the rest of the crowd \u00c2\u00a0at at the Kangaroo Park in Sydney, gawking and blushing\u00c2\u00a0at a huge male kangaroo\u00c2\u00a0proudly exposing himself\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0to the female kangas and the crowds &#8230;&#8230;.but I digress.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m still debating whether or not to weave floss through the holes of this fancy entredeux.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 For one thing, it will take precious time which is in short supply now.\u00c2\u00a0 And for another, whenever I deliberate over whether to add or cease and desist on an heirloom project, I usually desist.\u00c2\u00a0 More isn&#8217;t always better.\u00c2\u00a0 On the other hand, I love the look&#8230;&#8230;.What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>And the hemstitching, I think, is just spectacular.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Done on my Brother Duetta (4500D), it is just flawless.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had the same results from\u00c2\u00a0Brother&#8217;s ULT series machines.\u00c2\u00a0 Those engineers know how to generate perfect hemstitches.<\/p>\n<p>When the Elna 7000 came out, <em>Creative Needle<\/em> magazine featured an article by Melissa Stone, daughter of Sarah Howard Stone.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a step-by-step heirloom dress, including puffing\u00c2\u00a0edged with machine made entredeux.\u00c2\u00a0 Pinstitching was used for other lace attachment.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought\u00c2\u00a0I would die until I was the proud owner of that machine.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Later, I had the Elna\u00c2\u00a09000\/Diva and thought nothing could ever\u00c2\u00a0equal or surpass\u00c2\u00a0that hemstitching.\u00c2\u00a0 But my\u00c2\u00a0Brothers have.\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00c2\u00a0use the hemstitches every chance I get.<\/p>\n<p>I want to thank\u00c2\u00a0 you all for your\u00c2\u00a0kind words of support when I was so having so much difficulty with this dress.\u00c2\u00a0 Writing\u00c2\u00a0a blog is so different from writing a magazine article, where everything has to be perfect and\u00c2\u00a0 be written up with such specificity that there was no room for error&#8212;nor for the perception that the finished result was not the initially planned look.
