Today, Bob and I\u00c2\u00a0relocated 3 dogwood seedlings from beds around the dogwood tree to\u00c2\u00a0an azalea bed. Almost 3 dozen cuttings of coleus, impatiens, Swedish ivy and purple sweet potato vine were potted up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosesnetting2Brite1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31966\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosesnetting2Brite1.jpg\" alt=\"basketofrosesnetting2Brite\" width=\"640\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosesnetting2Brite1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosesnetting2Brite1-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the side yard rose garden, where an oak tree has grown so tall that it casts too much shade,\u00c2\u00a0 the first of many rose bushes was transplanted to a sunnier location. And I always get better results when pictures are taken outside.<\/p>\n<p>Just 22&#8243; square, the linen\u00c2\u00a0is edged\u00c2\u00a0with\u00c2\u00a0pinstitched tatting and embellished with Suzanne Sawko\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fil tire\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 basket and flowers. Some of the techniques include netting insertion, embroidery machine fil tire\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and web roses, and twin needle shadow work, though that doe not show up well in any of the photos.<\/p>\n<p>You might notice that each basket is a different color and the flowers that spill from it are also different from one corner to another. These variations makes it so much more interesting to me. The colors are numerous but the palette is narrow, with all shades having a muted tone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofroseshalf2Brite1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31973\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofroseshalf2Brite1.jpg\" alt=\"basketofroseshalf2Brite\" width=\"640\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofroseshalf2Brite1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofroseshalf2Brite1-300x243.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The embroideries remind me\u00c2\u00a0of my Mutabilis antique rose, which blooms simultaneously in 5 colors, from deep rose to pink, orange to soft peach, and finally yellow.\u00c2\u00a0 The flowers in the vase are from the same Mutabilis bush.<\/p>\n<p>All my needlework was heavily influenced by my study of\u00c2\u00a0 scrap quilting. My\u00c2\u00a0sophmoric assumption was that a quilt was made of scraps either because the quilter couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t afford to buy enough matching fabric or because she was compelled by a sense of thrift to use what was on hand.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought it was a Depression era concept.\u00c2\u00a0 Whoa!\u00c2\u00a0 Was I wrong!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosescan3Brite1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31975\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosescan3Brite1.jpg\" alt=\"basketofrosescan3Brite\" width=\"640\" height=\"481\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosescan3Brite1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/basketofrosescan3Brite1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At a workshop, one teacher declared that if every square on a quilt were the same, you need look at only one. Then your eye moves on to another quilt, another scene, another quilter or whatever. And these days, I need more variety in my activities, more sewing and less gardening.
