But I rarely do that and usually cut the pima cotton 42&#8243;\u00c2\u00a0x 26&#8243;.<\/li>\n<li>2.\u00c2\u00a0 Cut the contrasting hem fabric 9&#8243; x 42&#8243;, the same width as the pillowcase body.<\/li>\n<li>3.\u00c2\u00a0 With right sides together and pima on\u00c2\u00a0 top, pin the 42&#8243; contrasting hem fabric to the 42&#8243; pima cotton.\u00c2\u00a0 Then roll up\u00c2\u00a0 the pima until it fits like a sausage in the contrasting hem.\u00c2\u00a0 Now it should look like an open hot dog bun with the weiner in place. The diagram below is not proportional.\u00c2\u00a0 The roll and the hem would be much wider.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>4.\u00c2\u00a0 Bring the other raw edge of contrasting hem fabric up over the pima roll and pin.\u00c2\u00a0 Then sew the\u00c2\u00a0pinned together\u00c2\u00a0ends with the inside roll of pima.\u00c2\u00a0 I find it easier to sew from the other side, so I can see the stitching line from my piping or other inserted trim.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I stitch a needle&#8217;s width or one needle position toward the roll parallel to the existing stitching line.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubemonoLibdiagram2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32068\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubemonoLibdiagram2.jpg\" alt=\"diagram 1\" width=\"386\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5.\u00c2\u00a0The last step is hard to describe, hard to diagram and hard to understand until you just do it.\u00c2\u00a0 Reach into one of the open ends of the contrasting hem and pull the pima (pillowcase body) through that opening.\u00c2\u00a0 Voila!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubemonolibertyturningtube.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32069\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubemonolibertyturningtube.jpg\" alt=\"turning hem\" width=\"293\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubemonolibertyturningtube.jpg 293w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubemonolibertyturningtube-137x300.jpg 137w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>6.\u00c2\u00a0 Finally, you press it, seam the sides and short end.\u00c2\u00a0 While I really like French seams, with this technique, it is just too bulky.\u00c2\u00a0 So I usually serge the raw edges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubepilohemUT.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32070\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubepilohemUT.jpg\" alt=\"diagram 2\" width=\"640\" height=\"572\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubepilohemUT.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/zturntubepilohemUT-300x268.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pulling out some seasonal\u00c2\u00a0fabrics tonight to work up fall pillowcases for Robert and Laurel.\u00c2\u00a0 Here in Florida,\u00c2\u00a0 they surely can&#8217;t look out over the landscape to see the leaves change.\u00c2\u00a0 The only chance they get to see the fall colors is when we go to our cabin in North Carolina mountains.\u00c2\u00a0 So I like\u00c2\u00a0to give them a visual reminder of what this season is\u00c2\u00a0about.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My grandchildren love having special holiday pillowcases.
