The talents of one\u00c2\u00a0who sews are always in\u00c2\u00a0 great demand.\u00c2\u00a0 Judy Day\u00c2\u00a0writes, “\u00c2\u00a0This was done\u00c2\u00a0for my niece, Alison.\u00c2\u00a0 She rented an apartment that was in much need of\u00c2\u00a0 ‘fixing up.’\u00c2\u00a0 The owner gave her permission to re-do some things.<\/p>\n

She and her mom completely redid the bathroom, from painting to putting in new tile.\u00c2\u00a0 Staying with black, white and grays, Alison added the red flower picture to really make this bathroom pop.<\/p>\n

Alison found this shower curtain but it was just too plain.\u00c2\u00a0 So she asked me to put a big, black D on it.<\/p>\n

I created the D in Babylocks’s CustomWorks using LetterWorks II.\u00c2\u00a0 I chose the largest hoop for my Babylock BMP8 (a commercial embroidery machine).\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 After bringing the D into the hoop on the computer screen, I clicked ‘Fit Hoop.’\u00c2\u00a0 This made the D as large as possible (7.83 x 9.94″) while keeping it in proportion.<\/p>\n

The D was too large for the regular Satin Stitch, so I clicked on the Fill tab and changed the Stitch Type to Standard and the Pattern to Smooth.\u00c2\u00a0 This gave a beautiful smooth, filled letter instead of the machine tying to make a wide satin stitch and taking 2-3 stitches to get across the width.<\/p>\n

When doing this, one needs to remember that going from satin to fill adds many more stitches.\u00c2\u00a0 In this case, the design went from 7,785 satin stitches to 50,540 smooth fill stitches.\u00c2\u00a0 The\u00c2\u00a0fabric being embroidered has to be taken into account as some fabrics will not hold this many stitches and still be smooth and pucker free.”<\/p>\n

Judy’s monogram on this shower curtain\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0is the finishing touch on this crisp, contemporary bathroom. I’m sure it made Alison happy. \u00c2\u00a0I bet that landlord is happy to have Alison as his tenant–and I know Alison is happy to have Judy for her aunt.<\/p>\n

My daughter has a beautiful, heavy white matelasse shower curtain that I am really eager to embroider, after seeing the impact of Judy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s monogram.<\/p>\n

In fact, I have an identical curtain my recently remodeled but very traditional guest bathroom and would love to embroider that as well.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe I’ll do magnolias to match the tile border.<\/p>\n
