How was I to make this look soft enough for a baby and yet maintain the requested theme?\u00c2\u00a0 I like heirloom style and soft colors.\u00c2\u00a0 Harry Potter is neither.<\/p>\n<p>With all the visual fodder in the lengthy 7 book series, it was necessary to narrow the focus.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping in mind that Rebecca specifically requested bright colors, I went to the drawing board.\u00c2\u00a0 I like to start a nursery decoration plan with a quilt.\u00c2\u00a0 That establishes the color scheme and allows many spin offs and opportunities for accessories.<\/p>\n<p>After deciding on &#8220;fantastic creatures&#8221; I set to work, looking for designs that\u00c2\u00a0could be\u00c2\u00a0edited and customized to meet the description of critters from unicorns and fairies (the easy ones) to a thesteral, Pygmy Puff and snidget.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/HarryPotterHedwigcrop1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33457\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/HarryPotterHedwigcrop1.jpg\" alt=\"HarryPotterHedwig\" width=\"640\" height=\"634\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/HarryPotterHedwigcrop1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/HarryPotterHedwigcrop1-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/HarryPotterHedwigcrop1-300x297.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Can you Harry Potter fans identify the &#8220;fantastic creatures&#8221; shown in the quilt?\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe later I will list them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Harry-Pottersnidget1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33460\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Harry-Pottersnidget1.jpg\" alt=\"Harry-Pottersnidget\" width=\"640\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Harry-Pottersnidget1.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Harry-Pottersnidget1-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca suggested the random\u00c2\u00a0angle pieced border, suggestive, she thought, of the Weasleys&#8217; home.<\/p>\n<p>When the quilt was finished, I moved on to bumper pads.\u00c2\u00a0 That was a lot of fun and it&#8217;s a good thing! These bumper pads were a lot more work than I could justify for the single purpose of keeping our little darling from bumping his head or sliding between the crib rails.\u00c2\u00a0 For the 5-6 months that they are used, a lot of time was invested.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, weighing in at 9 lbs. 5 oz. After this photo was taken, the pad on the cedar chest was recovered with forest fabric.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As I told Rebecca when we began designing the nursery, it&#8217;s all for the parents.\u00c2\u00a0 They need something to make them smile when baby awakes for a feeding once or more every night.\u00c2\u00a0 This nursery makes Rebecca and Harvey grin.
