<\/a>Just next door to the facility, these magnolias are all in bloom, as well as a few lingering wild pink phlox.<\/p><\/div>\n
This was a really good day in rehab.\u00c2\u00a0 First thing this morning, Bob checked me out of the facility to take me to the orthopod.\u00c2\u00a0 It is less than\u00c2\u00a0two \u00c2\u00a0miles\u00c2\u00a0to the doctor’s office, with the\u00c2\u00a0hospital in between the two\u00c2\u00a0locations.\u00c2\u00a0 But it is mostly rural, the street lined with magnolias and orange groves–a pretty drive.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
I wore my green therapy shirt, posted yesterday, and I was amazed at\u00c2\u00a0that everyone from the receptionist to the X-ray tech to the doctor himself noticed not only the shirt but the incision on the knee in the design!\u00c2\u00a0 It made everyone smile, including me. The doctor checked the X-rays, declared my knee\u00c2\u00a0 hunky dory and was out of there in a flash.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
We decided that since the appointment was so fast,\u00c2\u00a0 I wouldn’t be missed for some time.\u00c2\u00a0 So we\u00c2\u00a0a run for it and dashed home, a mere 8\u00c2\u00a0miles.\u00c2\u00a0 I loved on Rastus, who was just beside himself, and Hannah, whose smug attitude\u00c2\u00a0made it clear to Rastus that my arrival was no big deal as she sees me alllll the time.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

We toured the yard in the golf cart, putting my mind at ease that all the seedlings that we had dug up and transplanted before my surgery were thriving.\u00c2\u00a0 Eight dogwood,\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a02 thumbergia and 3 Lady Margaret passion vine\u00c2\u00a0volunteers\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0all have\u00c2\u00a0become well established\u00c2\u00a0and grown a lot. I was afraid to go in the house for fear I would hobble to the sewing room and refuse to come out.<\/p>\n
Shelly brought Robert and Laurel for a visit\u00c2\u00a0during lunch. Of course, I loved that.\u00c2\u00a0 Susan invited them to come to therapy with me and they enjoyed\u00c2\u00a0showing off with the 1 and 2 lb. barbells,\u00c2\u00a0 convinced that they were\u00c2\u00a0 soon to be the\u00c2\u00a0next Mr. and Miss Atlas.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Yesterday, the family went to\u00c2\u00a0see Toy\u00c2\u00a0Story III<\/em>and Robert was\u00c2\u00a0so excited about the movie.\u00c2\u00a0 I was excited to\u00c2\u00a0know that now I can embroider some Toy Story<\/em> characters on shirts for him and stop with the Transformers and Spiderman designs.<\/p>\n \u00c2\u00a0In the center of the area is a nice oak tree surrounded by heavily blooming Knockout roses. After I\u00c2\u00a0commented\u00c2\u00a0on\u00c2\u00a0all the dead blossoms, Susan got me a pair of scissors and turned me loose deadheading\u00c2\u00a0all 20 bushes. I even pulled some weeds!\u00c2\u00a0 It felt so good to do even that little bit of gardening. And it felt really good to know that I can do all this just 12 days after a surgeon cut through the bones on my leg and shoved in a new knee.\u00c2\u00a0 The miracles of modern medicine make me so grateful that I live in this day and age.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n I had a nice long phone\u00c2\u00a0visit with Judy Day just before PlayGroup met for dinner here in my room.\u00c2\u00a0 As usual, we had a grand time. PlayGroup Judy\u00c2\u00a0(not Judy Day, who lives 900 miles from here) brought pizza from her son’s pizza parlor and a delicious salad she had made with greens, spinach, blueberries, walnuts, strawberries and homemade dressing.\u00c2\u00a0 We laughed and caught up with everyone’s news and bemoaned Mary’s situation.\u00c2\u00a0 She has been touring Italy for 6 days now and still does not have her luggage!\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n Finally, Annie Lu, my darling Taiwanese nurse, removed the staples from my knee.\u00c2\u00a0 That’s one more step toward a full recovery.\u00c2\u00a0 All things considered, it has been a great day.\u00c2\u00a0 I am well pleased with my life and my situation.<\/p>\n Now, if I can just get some smocking done in the next few days……<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" day #12 post op This was a really good day in rehab.\u00c2\u00a0 First thing this morning, Bob checked me out of the facility to take me to the orthopod.\u00c2\u00a0 It is less than\u00c2\u00a0two \u00c2\u00a0miles\u00c2\u00a0to the doctor’s office, with the\u00c2\u00a0hospital in … Continue reading <\/a>Therapy was encouraging, as I was able to do some things I found impossible just a\u00c2\u00a0two days ago.\u00c2\u00a0 We practiced climbing some steps and then went out to the courtyard.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0It has paths\u00c2\u00a0with different bases–mulch, pebbles,\u00c2\u00a0 sand and asphalt–as well as a little foot bridge with steps on one end and a ramp-like incline on the other.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
