Well, I finally finished Robert’s long since requested yellow towel and I must say I am pleased with the result.\u00c2\u00a0 I have only a scan of the hood and will post a better picture tomorrow.\u00c2\u00a0 But I’ve got some bug–or the bug has me–and I didn’t get an outdoor shot of the project today as planned.<\/p>\n

First, I have to thank Elisabeth for her\u00c2\u00a0recommendation of fabric.com.\u00c2\u00a0 I found what they called yellow “French terry,”\u00c2\u00a0 but there are no loops which indicate terry to me.\u00c2\u00a0 But it is nice, thick, and stretchy–good for wrapping around a little guy.<\/p>\n

a new day, a new picture<\/p><\/div>\n

I cut the 60″\u00c2\u00a0fabric into a 45″ square and then\u00c2\u00a0cut a 20″ square for the hood.\u00c2\u00a0 Fusible knit stabilizer was ironed on to the back of the piece in the embriodery area.\u00c2\u00a0 The square\u00c2\u00a0was folded in half diagonally and the embroidery centered.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0After\u00c2\u00a0the embroidery,\u00c2\u00a0the square was cut down to measure 20″ on the diagonal.\u00c2\u00a0Then the folded edge was bound.<\/p>\n

Robert chose three designs from\u00c2\u00a0Ace Point’s\u00c2\u00a0Jumping Dolphins<\/em> collection.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0His family had just taken a vacation to Naples, Florida,\u00c2\u00a0where they\u00c2\u00a0went on a dolphin watch boat ride.\u00c2\u00a0 The children were thrilled to see the dolphins racing companionably side-by-side with the boat.\u00c2\u00a0 So the embroidery design reminds him of that wonderful family time together.<\/p>\n

This is an interesting set of embroidery designs.\u00c2\u00a0 The water is applique’d in place and then a daisy stitch is worked as the fill.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0A blue and white stripe fabric from my stash served as the water and the binding.\u00c2\u00a0The daisy fill stitch over the stripes gave an interesting effect.\u00c2\u00a0 I was disappointed in the way the ball stitched out. I wish I had used a dry cover up to fill in the blue better.\u00c2\u00a0 But the way the stripes extend beyond the ball is probably the result of the knit fabric used.\u00c2\u00a0 Who knows?\u00c2\u00a0 Robert doesn’t care.<\/p>\n

The dolphins, however, were not applique’ but filled with stitches.\u00c2\u00a0 I chose to use a piece of gray ultrasuede for the three bodies by simply eliminating the fill stitches in BuzzEdit2.\u00c2\u00a0 This left the satin stitch outline, around which I trimmed the non-fraying ultrasuede.<\/p>\n

I cut the binding 1 1\/4″ wide and used the Clover Fusible\u00c2\u00a0BiasTape maker, though I didn’t make this bias fusible.\u00c2\u00a0 These are great little bias makers and I use them frequently.<\/p>\n

The towel is bound all around with the blue stripe fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 Robert loves it and has requested a matching wash cloth from the scraps.\u00c2\u00a0 Another day, another time……But I’m really happy to have filled this long awaited request from my precious grandson.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
