Haydee, center, and friends<\/p><\/div>\n

Some time ago, I wrote about the talent and charm of the ladies I met while teaching in Puerto Rico.\u00c2\u00a0 Haydee, a particular friend, has excelled in machine embroidery applique’ and has kindly shared pictures of\u00c2\u00a0 her\u00c2\u00a0projects and those of her friends.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I assume that the classes were held in San Juan, but I am not certain.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This set of photos shows a class making an A-line child’s\u00c2\u00a0dress with a fish applique.\u00c2\u00a0The pattern looks like the A-line dress from Martha’s Favorite Applique’s<\/em>, but it could be any one of several.<\/p>\n

But there is so much more to see here–check out the details.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Nestled into these\u00c2\u00a0vibrant underwater scenes are those\u00c2\u00a0extra details that make a garment grab our attention.\u00c2\u00a0 The 3-D button eyes stare right at you.<\/p>\n

Brushing the chenille brings up the nap.<\/p><\/div>\n

The dresses are lined, piped and trimmed with rick rack, with a riotous combination of bright colors.\u00c2\u00a0 Together, they look like part of a happy,\u00c2\u00a0carefree aquarium party.<\/p>\n

This was probably the promotional display for the class. What appealing projects!<\/p><\/div>\n

The chenille water plants are likely made with a product called Chenille by the Inch<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 I’ve seen it for sale in packages similar to the rick rack and seam binding you see on racks.<\/p>\n

After searching my favorite sites, I was only able to find it at Kari Mecca’s on-line store<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The chenille trim\u00c2\u00a0is even more enchanting with the tiny beads sewn on, mimicking air bubbles or fish eggs.\u00c2\u00a0This detail is best viewed by enlarging the boy’s suit in the photo.<\/p>\n

The texture\u00c2\u00a0these elements\u00c2\u00a0lend to a garment always pleases a child.\u00c2\u00a0 And, after all, isn’t that usually our goal when sewing for children?<\/p>\n

I always enjoy seeing pictures of sewing classrooms and this was no exception.<\/p>\n

This young lady at the\u00c2\u00a0cutting table shows that the Puerto Rican women are passing their skills down to the next generation.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It seems to me that, in general, \u00c2\u00a0their approach, appreciation and\u00c2\u00a0enthusiasm for\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0needlework is far greater than that of average American women.\u00c2\u00a0It’s always reassuring to see some youth in sewing classes.<\/p>\n

Just look at that gorgeous pin cushion!<\/p><\/div>\n

It would be nice to have a close up of this lady’s\u00c2\u00a0pincushion.\u00c2\u00a0 Sewing notions have always interested me, and this one looks particularly lovely.<\/p>\n

These photos really pushed me into second gear to\u00c2\u00a0schedule a sewing getaway or at least take a class.<\/p>\n

For years, I faithfully enrolled in one event each year.\u00c2\u00a0 But then I got busy and now I feel stale.\u00c2\u00a0 Classes are always so motivating.<\/p>\n

Have you been to any great classes?\u00c2\u00a0 Can you recommend a place or event?\u00c2\u00a0 My time is so limited, but I would love to do this.\u00c2\u00a0 Let me know if you have any recommendations.<\/div>\n
