It seems that I have been doing nothing but what I call “utility” sewing for the last little while.\u00c2\u00a0 My dear, sweet 89 year old Aunt Aileen has lost a good bit of weight in the past two years and asked me to do some alterations for her.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Robert’s favorite Transformer pajama bottoms needed mending.\u00c2\u00a0 My Aunt Rheeta’s son has just been\u00c2\u00a0called as \u00c2\u00a0pastor of a church (his first head pastor position) \u00c2\u00a0so she wanted a little design with the church name and “Pastor” embroidered below it.\u00c2\u00a0 Bob’s yard work shorts needed mending.\u00c2\u00a0 And there was more like this.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
Of course, I am happy to do my part\u00c2\u00a0for the family.\u00c2\u00a0 It makes me appreciate\u00c2\u00a0the time I spend on more challenging, creative projects.\u00c2\u00a0 I appreciate my wonderful sewing room, shelves of notions and sewing equipment.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I was pleased to finish the seams of my aunt’s linen dress and its lining\u00c2\u00a0with my Evolve Wave serger.\u00c2\u00a0 My PE-Design was pressed into service as I worked up the “Pastor.”\u00c2\u00a0 My ever faithful Pfaff 7570 did the mending and alterations.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
Tomorrow,\u00c2\u00a0Bob and I\u00c2\u00a0are heading to our cabin in the mountains of western North Carolina ( see www.fergusoncabins.com<\/a>).\u00c2\u00a0 Our house sitter will tend to the dogs and water the plants and keep things under control here at home.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 We hope to escape Florida’s heat and have a little down time.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n While we are there, I will begin work on a Jon-Jon for Alastair and a daygown to put aside.\u00c2\u00a0I am ready for some fun stuff and handwork is the only\u00c2\u00a0needlework that is practical to take along.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The Jon-Jon is red gingham with a white shirt.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m going to smock Ellen McCarn’s Farmland<\/em>, an oldie but a goodie.\u00c2\u00a0 I haven’t decided what to smock on the daygowns, so I pulled out several plates and have an assortment of\u00c2\u00a0 floss ready for selection.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n There are some interesting sewing projects at the cabin that I hope to photograph and share with you.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n Meanwhile, what have you been sewing?\u00c2\u00a0 How do you feel about utility sewing?\u00c2\u00a0 I’d love to hear about it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It seems that I have been doing nothing but what I call “utility” sewing for the last little while.\u00c2\u00a0 My dear, sweet 89 year old Aunt Aileen has lost a good bit of weight in the past two years and … Continue reading
