Our mountain cabin has a cozy hideaway loft.\u00c2\u00a0 Children love it and so do I.<\/p>\n

Often, on a cold or rainy day, I’ll climb up there to read or do hand work.\u00c2\u00a0 With a cup of Constant Comment orange spice tea and a smocking or shadow work project, I feel so snug.<\/p>\n

And what a place for a winter’s day nap!<\/p>\n

I wish I could get a good picture of this sweet spot.<\/p>\n

But I\u00c2\u00a0don’t want to ask Bob get out that huge ladder that he uses to change the outside light bulbs, so these will have to do.<\/p>\n

While children have referred to it as\u00c2\u00a0 their clubhouse or tree house, it actually serves as a third sleeping area\u00c2\u00a0when the other\u00c2\u00a0bedrooms\u00c2\u00a0are\u00c2\u00a0full. \u00c2\u00a0 The foam flip chairs open up and make a reasonably comfortable bed, at least for young people.<\/p>\n

To store the bedding for these flip chairs, I made two bags, one for each chair\/bed.<\/p>\n

The Ralph Lauren decorator fabric I found at an outlet store seemed perfect for the loft.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s hunting\/fishing\/outdoor theme offered just the sort of decorating mood\u00c2\u00a0I wanted for this spot.\u00c2\u00a0 This fabric was used for the window valance as well as the bedding bags.<\/p>\n

In this small space, even storage bags needed to be decorative.\u00c2\u00a0 With my
\nPE-Design, I used the open letter font for the text.\u00c2\u00a0 It was stitched over a piece of camel colored ultrasuede and then trimmed close to the stitching.<\/p>\n

What’s not to love about ultrasuede?\u00c2\u00a0 Applique’ letters like these are so easy with this miracle fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 It was also\u00c2\u00a0used it to bind the top edge of the bag, for ties and for a fringe along the muslin text panel.\u00c2\u00a0 It also added another texture to this texture rich environment.<\/p>\n

Ralph’s fishing license<\/p><\/div>\n

The detail on the fabric just makes me smile.\u00c2\u00a0 When I saw Ralph’s fishing license, I was tempted to monogram the pillowcases with RL, but monograms and the outdoor theme seemed incompatible.<\/p>\n

I doubt any of our guests notice the details that I so enjoy adding to our vacation rental home. And it is unlikely that\u00c2\u00a0keeping\u00c2\u00a0the loft bedding in a plastic storage box\u00c2\u00a0 would ruin a family’s vacation in the High Country.\u00c2\u00a0 But several guests have commented on the extra sewing touches and I love stitching these little pleasures.<\/p>\n

Sewing has given me the opportunity to\u00c2\u00a0lavish my grandchildren, my family \u00c2\u00a0and my friends with personalized, individualized gifts.\u00c2\u00a0 I can beautify my home\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0and this special place in the mountains that we so enjoy.\u00c2\u00a0 It seems that I can apply my\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0love of sewing to any aspect of life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
