<\/a>made for me by my teenage daughter (Liberty from my stash) while I was out of town.\u00c2\u00a0 It is flat but was flapping in the breeze.<\/p><\/div>\n
This triple Irish Chain\u00c2\u00a0quilt was made by my daughter, Rebecca, when she was 16 years old.\u00c2\u00a0 Fifteen years ago, it was my birthday present.\u00c2\u00a0 It was also my Liberty of London tanna lawn, but no matter.\u00c2\u00a0 My Liberty is Rebecca’s Liberty. And I love this quilt.<\/p>\n
Rebecca was introduced to needlework at age 5.\u00c2\u00a0 She smocked a little bonnet and bishop dress for her favorite doll, an Alice in Wonderland by Madame Alexander.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Alice in Wonderland.\u00c2\u00a0 Becca always called her Allison Wonderland.<\/p>\n
By 6 she was using the sewing machine and\u00c2\u00a0with time\u00c2\u00a0was knowledgeable about \u00c2\u00a0garment construction, \u00c2\u00a0knitting,\u00c2\u00a0 quilting, cross stitch and\u00c2\u00a0shadow embroidery. At age nine, she won the county fair sweepstakes for her accomplishments in a number of categories, including creative arts, gardening, cake decorating, canning, flower arranging and\u00c2\u00a0produce.\u00c2\u00a0 She was featured in a newspaper article and came away with a fistful of ribbons and a generous cash prize.<\/p>\n Rebecca\u00c2\u00a0was the youngest to have ever won this prestigious\u00c2\u00a0award.\u00c2\u00a0 The next year she repeated the victory.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0At that time\u00c2\u00a0new rule was instituted stating that\u00c2\u00a0 the winner cannot compete again for 3 years.<\/p>\n The hours we spent\u00c2\u00a0together stitching in one mode or another\u00c2\u00a0were joyful times.\u00c2\u00a0 At 14, she decided to make a king size quilt.\u00c2\u00a0 I did help\u00c2\u00a0by\u00c2\u00a0rotary cutting the 2″ squares of ivory mid-weight Swiss batiste and a variety of blue based Liberty of London tanna lawn prints.\u00c2\u00a0 With the left over squares, she made this quilt for me.\u00c2\u00a0 I was in Australia for two weeks teaching and in my absence she got this all together.\u00c2\u00a0Each and every\u00c2\u00a0corner is perfect and the free motion work is very good.\u00c2\u00a0 I was so proud of her.\u00c2\u00a0 I just love this quilt.\u00c2\u00a0 It hangs on the door of my old oak Hoosier cabinet so I can see it every day.<\/p>\n She is a wife and mother now, 31 years old, and a delight\u00c2\u00a0 to her father and me.\u00c2\u00a0 We are\u00c2\u00a0best friends and enjoy every minute we have together.\u00c2\u00a0 This little quilt is a daily reminder of those hours spent building this joyful relationship.<\/p>\n It is my hope that this post will encourage you to sew with your\u00c2\u00a0children and grandchildren and any others who are in your lives.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The reward for both teacher and student are enormous.\u00c2\u00a0 And who knows?\u00c2\u00a0 You might get a love quilt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" This triple Irish Chain\u00c2\u00a0quilt was made by my daughter, Rebecca, when she was 16 years old.\u00c2\u00a0 Fifteen years ago, it was my birthday present.\u00c2\u00a0 It was also my Liberty of London tanna lawn, but no matter.\u00c2\u00a0 My Liberty is … Continue reading <\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
