class at the Sewing Garret in South Daytona.\u00c2\u00a0 As always, she\u00c2\u00a0was delightfully entertaining while she teaching her students\u00c2\u00a0fabulous techniques and tips.<\/p>\n<p>I was unable to stay for the sit and sew portion, but snapped these pictures of some of her inspiring samples.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/NapBib.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9407 alignright\" title=\"MargaretNapBib\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/NapBib-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"283\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Margaret is best known for her serging expertise, but she is equally adept with sewing.\u00c2\u00a0 The creativity and variety of her samples\u00c2\u00a0shows just how diverse her talents are.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/TullyBib.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9408 alignleft\" title=\"MargaretTullyBib\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/TullyBib-300x235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/TullyBib-300x235.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/TullyBib.jpg 707w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 260px) 100vw, 260px\" \/><\/a>In the heirloom area, she has two sweet baby bibs, both made from mitred, hand hemstitched cocktail napkins.\u00c2\u00a0 One is simply and elegantly edged with tatting while the other\u00c2\u00a0is machine embroidered.\u00c2\u00a0 Both have silk ribbon woven through the generous hemstitching holes.<\/p>\n<p>This small crazy quilt has amazing embellishments.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/crazy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9416\" title=\"Margaretcrazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/crazy-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/crazy-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/crazy.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> She couched ribbon threads and other fibers on a block and then cut it into quarter rounds.\u00c2\u00a0 They were then joined to the block corner,\u00c2\u00a0as you would on\u00c2\u00a0a Dresden Plate block.<\/p>\n<p>The fabric selection is just exhilarating.\u00c2\u00a0 The striped border around the blocks gives a brief moment of order.\u00c2\u00a0 Then the little quilt seems to vibrate before your eyes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/latticevest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9425\" title=\"Margaretlatticevest\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/latticevest-300x258.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"232\" \/><\/a>Her construction is flawless, but this vest shows that Margaret just cannot leave anything alone.\u00c2\u00a0 Rather than a nice, simple vest, she has created a lattice for one side and even included a climbing vine, complete with leaves and flowers to affirm the trellis suggestion.\u00c2\u00a0 I know my 6 year old granddaughter would love this.\u00c2\u00a0 Gosh, I would love this!<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MayYourDays1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9428\" title=\"MargaretMayYourDays\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MayYourDays1-245x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"204\" height=\"258\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another small hanging features machine embroidery which seems to match the border fabric.\u00c2\u00a0 Margaret&#8217;s cheerful text selection is perfect for this piece.<\/p>\n<p>The red ball fabric is applique&#8217;d in place and then machine embroidery stitches reach across the width of the balls.\u00c2\u00a0 I love Margaret&#8217;s choice of fabric for the balls.\u00c2\u00a0 The textured look gives the ornaments convincing dimension.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MargaretSashikoBag.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9433\" title=\"MargaretSashikoBag\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MargaretSashikoBag-202x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"274\" \/><\/a>As you may know, Margaret is a Babylock educator.\u00c2\u00a0 She showed features of the new Symphony quilting and embellishing machine as well as the upgrade for the Ellisimo.<\/p>\n<p>Babylock&#8217;s sashiko machine was on display in the shop, but Margaret did not demonstrate that.<\/p>\n<p>Still, it is clear that she is well versed in its use as evidenced by this little potpourri bag with sashiko stitching.\u00c2\u00a0 I hardly believe Margaret would have done this by hand, though it certainly looks like it.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/SantaPlate.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9436\" title=\"MargaretSantaPlate\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/SantaPlate-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/SantaPlate-300x203.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/SantaPlate.jpg 799w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite samples was this Christmas Eve placemat for Santa&#8217;s snack.\u00c2\u00a0 Margaret traced the outline of her Lenox Christmas china so that the plate would fit perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>She added a coaster for Santa&#8217;s milk and even embroidered free standing cookies to be in place until the fresh batch is out of the oven.\u00c2\u00a0 The placemat is backed with a simple black quilted fabric and serged around the edges.\u00c2\u00a0 This is just darling.\u00c2\u00a0 I bet my granddaughter would love to make this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Margaretstitches.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9439\" title=\"Margaretstitches\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Margaretstitches-259x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Margaretstitches-259x300.jpg 259w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Margaretstitches.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 259px) 100vw, 259px\" \/><\/a>Margaret showed samples of a wonderful\u00c2\u00a0 technique she introduced at a Martha Pullen school when we were teaching the Babylock school together.\u00c2\u00a0 Margaret had a daygown, sweet as pie, stitched in the heirloom style, all batiste and French laces.\u00c2\u00a0 But the piece de resistance was the embroidery between the button holes.<\/p>\n<p>She used decorative stitches from the sewing side of the machine and colored in portions with pigma pens.\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MargaretStitchesclose2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-9442\" title=\"MargaretStitchesclose\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MargaretStitchesclose2-231x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MargaretStitchesclose2-231x300.jpg 231w, http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/MargaretStitchesclose2.jpg 571w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The samples she showed in class had been\u00c2\u00a0shaded with colored pencils and a variety of other media.\u00c2\u00a0 How exciting is this?<\/p>\n<p>For those with or without machine embroidery capability, tiny little decorative embellishments can be made without the bulk of thread.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret&#8217;s ideas just keep on coming.\u00c2\u00a0 Don&#8217;t ever miss an opportunity to take a class from her.\u00c2\u00a0
