a beautiful Thanksgiving day with our daughter and her husband&#8217;s family.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0In addition to\u00c2\u00a0the tenderest pork roast this side of the Mason-Dixie line,\u00c2\u00a0 standard Thanksgiving fare was offered, including turkey and all the trimmings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">89 year-old Ruby again delighted but did not surprise us with her dee-vine Florida pear cobbler, chocolate pecan pie and blackberry cobbler.\u00c2\u00a0 Everything was delicious beyond words, except for the pumpkin cheese cake I made.\u00c2\u00a0 The gingersnap pecan crust was burned and I don&#8217;t know why.<\/p>\n<p>But with a few of my\u00c2\u00a0ordinary but satisfactory\u00c2\u00a0pumpkin pies and Ruby&#8217;s contributions, there was no shortage of desserts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/zThanksgivingsuitinprogressturkey.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10009\" title=\"zThanksgivingsuitinprogressturkey\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/zThanksgivingsuitinprogressturkey.jpg\" alt=\"\" suit, Alastair, of course, stole the show from the roasted bird.\u00c2\u00a0 With his good looks and sweet nature,\u00c2\u00a0this little boy\u00c2\u00a0does not need cute clothing to win everyone&#8217;s attention.\u00c2\u00a0But he was precious in his\u00c2\u00a0black and white houndstooth check\u00c2\u00a0suit, made up from the John-John pattern in <em>Martha&#8217;s Favorite Applique&#8217;s <\/em>book by Martha Pullen.<\/p>\n<p>The turkey\u00c2\u00a0design from the Autumn Harvest collection by <em>Designs by JuJu<\/em> was added to the front,\u00c2\u00a0enabling the\u00c2\u00a0John-John to be worn beyond Thanksgiving day.\u00c2\u00a0 I hope to get another button-on embroidered for other occasions.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10007\" style=\"width: 730px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Thanks10AR1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10007\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Granddad (my honey) holding Alastair wearing his super bib<\/p><\/div>\n<p>For you new grandmother readers, I have to share news of this\u00c2\u00a0amazing bib my daughter\u00c2\u00a0uses for Alastair.\u00c2\u00a0 It is a soft, almost foamy rubber, but almost as sturdy as an inner tube!\u00c2\u00a0 The pocket catches any drops and dribbles and the whole thing is simply and quickly hand washed at the kitchen sink after each meal.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10011\" style=\"width: 781px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Thanks10cooking.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10011\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10011\" title=\"Thanks10cooking\" src=\"http:\/\/www.janicefergusonsews.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Thanks10cooking.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"771\" height=\"597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">last minute dinner preparations<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Rebecca just hangs the damp bib over the back of the high chair and it is ready for the next meal. He is a pretty careful\u00c2\u00a0eater, but mealtime is a tidier affair with this baby accessory.\u00c2\u00a0 I highly recommend it for all babies.<\/p>\n<p>For one more bit of sewing show and tell, check out the valances in the kitchen.\u00c2\u00a0 Harvey&#8217;s mother and my dear friend, Carol (wearing the apron), made these for her spacious country home.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did she get exactly what she wanted, she saved a lot of money by making them herself.\u00c2\u00a0 The pattern is carried into the adjoining breakfast room for those windows.<\/p>\n<p>When I took this photo, everyone applauded my effort to document this rare\u00c2\u00a0occasion.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, it was the only time\u00c2\u00a0 anyone has\u00c2\u00a0 ever seen Rebecca cooking.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, she was only asked to whisk the gravy, a task that made my steely-nerved daughter a bit anxious.<\/p>\n<p>Since\u00c2\u00a0their wedding\u00c2\u00a0day,\u00c2\u00a0 handsome Prince Charming Harvey has come home from work and cooked a gourmet dinner for Rebecca.\u00c2\u00a0 And I thought her father spoiled her!\u00c2\u00a0 To her credit though, she did make all of Alastair&#8217;s baby food fresh from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>I hope you all enjoyed this day of \u00c2\u00a0Thanksgiving and continue to enjoy the blessings of loving family and friends.
