New Laces 4 Sale & Fun with Grandchildren

What a grand time we are having here in the mountains with our grandchildren, Robert and Laurel!  Today was their mother’s birthday so  after breakfast they put on a little skit in honor of  the occasion. Laurel,7,  had carefully selected her “My Mom Rocks” tee shirt for the day.

Wearing this shirt, she played the role of  Shelly’s mother, Janine, and had a pillow tucked under her little tee shirt.  With an amazingly spot on 9-months pregnant waddle, she came out from the hall wailing, “I’m sooo tired of being pregnant.  I can’t wait for this baby to be born!”

Robert, 5,  played the part of Shelly’s father, Tom,who hustled along behind her, offering these comforting words.   “Soon, Darling,  soon.  You will be holding our baby in your arms soon.”

Laurel/Janine snapped back, “I want to be holding my belly in again soon!”  Then she cried out, “The baby is coming!  It’s time!  It’s time!  It’s June 29!”

She pulled out the pillow and snatched up her AG Kit doll, swaddled in Laurel’s bedtime blankie.

The young couple cooed over their beautiful baby daughter and predicted that she would be smart and kind and beautiful and sometimes a little bit cranky (a trait rarely displayed but frequently bemoaned by Shelly).  And she would be a wonderful mother to her beautiful children.  Then they shouted “Happy Birthday, Mama!” and hugged her.

The audience, consisting of Mama Shelly, Daddy Ryan and Granddad Bob applauded enthusiastically while the cast basked in the glow of praise.  It was such fun!

Then they were off to the  trout farm to catch their first fish.  For dinner tonight we had the delicious rainbow trout they reeled in at the trout farm.  Success was guaranteed—it was like fishing in a barrel.  But they loved it.

Later, Laurel and Nature Girl Shelly hiked to the top of Seven Devils Mountain.  For a good bit of the climb, there were no trails so they “bushwhacked” their way through the dense undergrowth and over rugged, rocky terrain.

So many things are done for grandchildren in hopes of creating wonderful, lasting memories for them.  But if Robert and Laurel don’t remember these special days, Bob and I certainly will.  ~~~~~~~~~~~
