Sweet Baby Jane (Vivian Rose) Bubble

Ahhhhhh…I’ve just returned home from spending a few days helping my daughter Rebecca with new baby Vivian Rose and Alastair, 3.  I miss them already.

At Rebecca’s special request, I had made up the Sweet Baby Jane bubble pattern by Sara Norris.  And then I forgot to pack it.  She was disappointed, but it will go out to her in Monday’s mail.

This darling pattern first came to my attention when I saw Lisa’s adorable interpretation which was shown on her blog,  Mommy’s Apron Strings.  A few days later, I met my friend Suzanne Sawko for our regular Monday “meeting” for lunch at Panera.  She shared photos of the Sweet Baby Jane she had made for her sweet grandbaby Waverly.  I bought the pattern that day.

This is a fabulous e-pattern.  I love these downloadable patterns, with no shipping and immediate gratification.

It is quickly made and so precious.  The directions are fabulous, with photos of each and every step.  Vivian Rose will have more of these.

I do have a few tips for you if you make this.  Of course, I can say nothing about the fit, but Suzanne made it up to fit 2 year old Waverly and was a little disappointed that it did not have the blousy pouf as shown in the photo.  But Waverly is tall for her age, so she needed additional length.  To get the pouf, it would be wise to compare the child’s measurements to the pattern.

Another pointer for fussier readers has to do with the ruffles.  The directions offer  options for many of the steps in construction.  It was suggested that the ruffles be serged or narrow hemmed.  I had serged the ruffles on Vivian  Rose’s ruffle butt diaper cover and was disappointed.  So for Sweet Baby Jane the ruffles were rolled and whipped.  The finish was very satisfactory.

One more FYI…the ruffles are to be cut 42-45″ across the width of the fabric.  My lavender gingham was a vintage piece from the estate sale  (scroll down to Lace History) of the fabric hoarder lady. The cotton gingham was only 34″ wide.  I debated whether or not to piece enough to get 44″ but instead decided that I would just go with one 34″ length.  As you can see, the ruffles are adequate.  I don’t know how that would have worked on a larger size though.

Leaving Rebecca and the children was hard.

But coming home is always a joy.  In the few days that I was gone, the azaleas had begun to bloom.  And the oak leaves were falling like rain.  That’s how it is in central Florida.  Here, fall and falling leaves means January.
