FREE Thanksgiving Designs Alert and Thankful Sewing

3 aprons

Precious, decades old friendships are near the top of the list when I count my blessings.   So when Catherine (one of the PlayGroup Mamas) asked me to embroider three apron blanks for Thanksgiving, I was happy for the opportunity to do something for her. Both of her sons and her only grandchild live in far-off Colorado where she will be spending Thanksgiving.  The aprons are for her two daughters-in-law and one of their sisters, all three of whom will  be cooking.  All the while, Catherine will be grinning ear to ear as she revels in the joy of grandmotherhood with one year old Jay.

The FREE wreath design (plus a cute FREE turkey through November 30) design is available at Embroidery Library.  I enjoyed playing with different colors, including some variegated threads so each apron is a little different from the others.  The alphabet used for the names is Loralie’s Loralesque.

thankful all

Our godson, Joel, is Jay’s father,  so I feel a special attachment to this little boy.  Included with the aprons is a shirt I embroidered for him.  The design is from Embroitique, but I added the text “and turkeys,” fully intending to whip up a little fleece stuffed turkey, like the Operation Christmas Child toys.  But I  ran out of time.

thankful close

The applique’d turkey text is another raw edge design.  I just can’t seem to get the knack of these.  When the embroidery is done, the edges are toooooo raggedy for me to live with, so ultimately I cut them close to the stitching, cringe at the loose threads and hope they won’t ravel out. It seems that it might work better with tightly woven fabric, but then would it fluff up enough to create the 3-D effect for which you are striving?  Can anyone givve me some advice? There are still a few Thanksgiving items left to embroider and then—YIKES!!!—it’s almost Christmas! What are you thankful for?  What are you sewing?
