V store bought smocked close

Available from CiaoBebeBoutique    Now I see that it is offered in pink and with sleeves.

I did not make this dress.  It was ordered from CiaoBebeBoutique and I love it. When I saw it posted on Pinterest, I found it to be irresistible.

Vivian Rose, our toddler granddaughter, has big blue eyes and would be spectacular in this, I knew.

Vivi bat

Her blue eyes are exactly like her mother’s–not at all bat-like.

But I can smock.  And I can embroider–and sew.   But I wanted it now.  So it arrived in the mail and now Vivian Rose is wearing it.  I have decided that I don’t have to make everything she wears.  Buying this dress freed me up to sew other things for her.

The 100% cotton dress is very well made.  I shortened it considerably to her mother’s preferred length.

Here she is wearing the dress at pre-school which she attends two mornings a week.  Vivian Rose is a very intense, busy little girl.  And cute as a button.

I have no regrets or guilt for making this purchase.

The grandchildren were all here last weekend to decorate gingerbread houses.  I tucked 5 yo grandson Alastair into bed, read him a story and then kissed him goodnight.

“Good night, Alastair.   You must be very tired after that long drive to Nana’s house.”

“No, I’m not tired.  I took two naps in the car.  Do you know why I could take two naps?”

“No, why?”

“Because I hate Jesus.”

“What???  Why would you say you hate Jesus?”

“Nana, I didn’t say I hate Jesus.  I said I ate Cheezits.  A whole bag of them.  They made me sleepy.”

Whew!  Clarification is sweet.

  1. Good for you! I have purchased an outfit or two from Cecil and Lou for Sweet Caroline who is 18 months. Smocked candy corn bishop and a smocked crab sunsuit. No, you don’t have to smock and sew everything they wear yourself. I’ve got two granddaughters too and there are just not enough hours in the day… I’m going to check out that website. Sweet Caroline has big blue eyes too.

  2. Terri, thanks for the reassurance that I am not the only one who occasionally buys smocked clothing for my granddaughter. I’m sure that your Sweet Caroline with the big blue eyes is adorable in all her smocked clothing, whether it is made by her grandmother or Cecil and Lou–that’s a site that I am going to check out. Thanks for the tip!

  3. Hi Janice,
I really don’t think you should feel *any* guilt over buying an already hand made dress for your granddaughter. You make so many wonderful things! and I’m glad you share them with your readers!

I have to say, I’m just amazed at the price of it, thinking about how much time it must have taken to make all of those lovely bullion roses. The dress is just stunning! It really caught my eye the other day as I was reading the post that followed it. Wow, that’s pretty. I’d like to make something like that one day. Maybe for a future granddaughter!

As you imagined, it does look wonderful on Vivian, and she does have pretty blue eyes!

  4. Connie, thanks for your vote of approval. I just could not resist that dress, especially with alllll those bullion roses! If I did the embroidery, it would have taken every free minute for the next several months. I feel certain that you will make a dress similar and/or better than that one day, Connie. Thanks for your kind words about sharing my own creations.
